How do I Manage My WordPress Post and Page Content?

How To Edit Text

Each page or post has a similar editing box where you can add or remove text and images. Above the editing area, you will see several different buttons/options. These options work very similar to Microsoft Word. You may make text Bold, Italic, center text, make lists, change text color, etc.

How To Add Images

To add an image in your content area, place your mouse cursor in the location where you want the image to be. Next, select the button above the content area that says “Add Media”.

In the screen that pops up, you may either drag-and-drop the image you want to use OR you may select the button that says Select Files and then navigate to the image you want to use.

Once you have selected the image you want to use, you will see the following items on the right side of the screen: Title, Caption, Alt Text, etc. In the area, scroll down until you get to the section: ATTACHMENT DISPLAY SETTINGS. There you can choose to align you image to the left, right, or center of the screen. You may also choose what size you would like the image to be.

When you’re done, select the blue “Insert” button at the bottom right of your screen.

How To Add a Link

Type the text that you want displayed on the front end of the website (what will be clicked on).

With your mouse, highlight (click and drag with your mouse) the words you just typed. Then, at the top of the box, click on the link icon (Chain Link).

If you want the link to open in a new tab or window, click the gear next to the blue arrow, check “Open link in a new window/tab”. Lastly, click the Add Link button.

How To Add a PDF

To add a PDF, place your cursor in the area you want the link to the PDF to be. Then, select the Add Media button above the content area. In the screen that pops up, you may either drag-and-drop the PDF you want to use OR you may select the button that says “Select Files” and then navigate to the file you want to use.

After you’ve uploaded the PDF, on the right side of the screen, you will see a place to enter a Title. There should already be something there. Erase what is there and enter the text you want to show on the website. This text will be the link to the PDF. Also on the right side of the screen, look for where it says “Link To”. Make sure Media File is selected in the drop down next to that. After you’ve uploaded the PDF, select the blue “Insert” button at the bottom right of your screen.

How To Add a Button

To assist in formatting each page, we’ve added the ability to wrap a word or phrase in a shortcode (to learn more about shortcodes click here) to create buttons. Make sure the text inside quotes for the href is black and not underlined and blue. Here are your options

-This shortcode will have the link open in the same window/tab

-This shortcode will have the link open in a new window/tab

How To Add a YouTube Video

To insert a YouTube video into your content, simply copy the YouTube link from your address bar and paste it into the content area of the post or page you are editing. WordPress will automatically embed it into the content for you.
